Experience worship with us
Happy are they who trust in the Lord. Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; But their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.
is probably not a word you’d share too often in conversation, but for me it brings a flood of memories. It’s a word I wouldn’t know had I not served in youth ministry, alongside Sunday morning’s guest preacher, Kathy Dahmer. It was December 1999, and we were at Central UC, Port Colborne, trying to bring a musical to life – all at a time of life that we both longed to know God’s next steps for us at home and church.
Ten years later, Kathy sits at the edge of her M.Div. completion, having just interned at Bethel/Cooks Mills UC. She studies/works in chaplaincy at St. Catharines General Hospital, and works part-time at Newport Center as an addictions counsellor. Before all of that, she and her husband Larry are raising sons Jordan (12), Caleb (10) and daughter Kate (8). Add in some family mountain-biking, and life is very busy – but good and full of God’s confirmation for their ministry.
And so you can imagine what a privilege and joy it is to welcome Kathy here Sunday, as this year’s winner of The Dr. Hugh Pritchard Memorial Scholarship. Created by this congregation in 1982, it is given annually to an Emmanuel College student, “to create interest in, and emphasis on, the art of preaching.” It’s a gift given in support and affirmation, but a gift received, too, as we get to hear first-hand some of the next generation of passionate Gospel preachers.
It’s a gift to welcome you, Kathy – continued blessings as you proclaim the Word we all need to know.
With love, Heather Weaver-Orosz
